In Nord-Neukölln entwickelt sich an der Grenze zu Kreuzberg eine bunte Wohn- und Geschäftsgegend. Ihre Merkmale sind Kreativität und Originalität. Der Kreuzkölln Audioguide besteht aus Texten, die im Projekt Gutenberg gefunden wurden. Seit 1994 stellt das Projekt Gutenberg-DE kostenlos Bücher für alle ins Web. Die Suche für den Kreuzkölln Audioguide basiert auf den Straßennamen Kreuzköllns. Mithilfe einer Sprachsynthese Software wurden die Texte in Audiodateien konvertiert.

68 AudioGuide resurrects the spirit of Paris in May 68 in Cheltenham with a walk through the town following a map transposed from the Paris arondissements, and an audio guide with original slogans from 68.

The mapping and routing has been done with the aid of Yahoo Maps (http://maps.yahoo.com).

The tour covers the following places of Paris: the Quartier Latin (A), the Place de l’Odeon (B), the Etoile (C), the Élysée Palace (D), the Place de la Concorde (E) and the Sorbonne University (F).
3. May - Police clear the courtyard at the Sorbonne. Violence in the Quartier Latin results in more than 100 injured and 596 arrested.
4. May - Courses at the Sorbonne are suspended. The UNEF and the Snesup call for unlimited strikes.
6. May - Battles in the Quartier Latin: 422 arrests; 345 police and about 600 students are hurt.
7. May - At the tomb of the unknown soldier at Etoile: 30,000 students sing the ‘Marseillaise’.
10. May - Night of riot in the Quartier Latin: police assault 60 barricades. 367 are hospitalized of which 251 are police; 720 others hurt and 468 arrested. Cars burned were 60 and 188 others were damaged. The Minister of Education says of the protestors, “Ni doctrine, ni foi, ni loi.”
13. May - The Sorbonne is occupied by students.
15. May - The theatre de l’Odéon is occupied by 2,500 students.
19. May - At the Elysée palace, President de Gaulle says, “La réforme, oui; la chienlit, non”
30. May - Tens of thousands of government supporters march from Concorde to the Etoile.

The tour through Cehltenham pretends to be a tour through Paris.
Yahoo says that the tour is about 12.9 km long. By feet it takes at least 2 hours.

MAG is a self guided tour for the Micronomics May Day event in Brussel. MAG is influenced by the legacy of psychogeography. MAG takes pedestrians off their predictable paths and hopefully jolts them into a new awareness of the urban landscape and its social impact. The MAG tour leads from Place De La Constitution to Rue Du Commerce to Rue Du Marché and finally to Rue De L’Économie. Using Yahoo map software, a streetmap focusing on economic terms was created. These terms were later further explored by putting them into an online library search engine (Project Gutenberg). The found text fragments have been converted to an MP3 file with a text to speech software.

All places were choosen because of their special entries on the Yahoo Map. There, all have been marked as Gate (Keyed Access), Gate (Emergency) or Gate (Permission). The self guided audio tour uses the Yahoo map software to create a walk through San Francisco and a text to speech conversion of texts retrieved from Project Gutenberg. The search at Gutenberg has been directed by street names.

A. We start at 5th St. near Shipley St. .

There you find “The City Mews” with a keyed access only Gate. In the earlier times, when mews were purely service streets, effort was made to isolate them visually from main streets. An entrance through a narrow alleyway on the ground floor of a large terrace in the main street was a common type of access to mews in the early/mid 19th century and before. Later, when mews buildings were separate and independent houses, access as provided through gates and arches which gave both privacy and a degree of grandeur.

B. If you follow Ellis St. a bit further than Leavenworth St. you will find Cohen Place in the middle of Tenderloin.
Repeatedly described in most tourist guides as “the worst neighborhood in San Francisco”.

C. Still in Tenderloin we follow Post St. until Hyde St. A lot of text fragments for this stop’s audio guide was found at Ulysses by James Joyce.

D. Before you reach the final destination you stop at Sutter St. near Octavia St.

E. Then at Telegraph Hill, where Chesnut St. crosses Kearny St. you have reached Gate (Permission).
